Back in 2010, Interval Press packed up shop and moved to its current studio located at Verge Center for the Arts, an artist collective located in Sacramento, California. As residents of a new community and wanting to contribute to the success of the project, we immediately became involved in various design projects for VCA. These included a logo and identity system and the implementation of the logo into various marketing & fundraising applications. Over time, this has helped establish VCA as an recognizable brand within art community of Sacramento as well as to its international partners. We have also designed and printed several posters for the promotion of various events hosted at VCA. This allowed us to branch outside of the VCA identity and introduce a variety of styles and forms, all contributing to the reality that Verge is a very diverse, eclectic, and innovative collection of local artists.
Design a logo and identity system that accurately represents a diverse community of artists. It must be simple and versatile enough to be used in a variety of applications by artists and stakeholders within the Verge Community.
The final mark represents VCA being a "center" that contributes outwardly to a growing art community in Sacramento. It does this with various exhibitions, shows, educational classes, fundraising events, and parties. The acronym "VCA" is built into the mark as a secondary descriptor, and the full name is stacked below the main symbol to give it a sense of elevation and brightness. Each part has been designed to exist completely separately and still accurately represent the collective. This makes it very versatile and easy to use in a variety of applications. Early on in the process, it was decided that the logo should be simple enough to allow for analog applications such as stenciling, stamping, or other artistic renditions. So far we have seen many interesting and creative results, our favorite being on the handle of a beer tap that was created when VCA partnered with Ruhstaller Beer, a local microbrewery in Sacramento.
